2021 ‘Block 6 – Stone River’ Single Parcel Estate Malbec
The rockiest vineyard block that was planted in 2013 on the banks of the Arroyo Grande and surrounding our boutique winery. These vines survive on the cusp of what is possible, producing low-yields of powerful Malbec with high-toned red fruit, regarded by many collectors as the most ageworthy bottle in the Corazón del Sol collection, with a similar profile to classified growth Bordeaux.
TASTING NOTES
Nose | Opens with an intense and expressive bouquet of black fruit preserves and ripe blueberries, layered with delicate notes of jarilla, violets, dark chocolate, and wild thyme that reflect the native landscape of Los Chacayes.
Palate | On the palate, the wine is powerful and commanding, with a broad, mouth-filling texture. Generous, ripe tannins provide impressive structure while remaining beautifully integrated, leading to a long, persistent finish that is both deep and full of character.
2021 ‘Block 13 – Sandlot’ Single Parcel Estate Malbec
Our oldest vineyard block of ‘Original Vines’ was planted at Corazón del Sol in 2008 in a very unique sand covered area of Los Chacayes reminiscent of Bandol in the south of France. A single 3-acre block of Malbec produces barrels that inspire our top bottlings of Gran Reserva Malbec and Magma.
Each vintage, only two barrels are selected from this block for the ‘Block 13 – Sandlot’, showcasing a super fine tannin structure. The profile of fruit from this block has purity and power that will impress a Napa Cab collector who loves Howell Mountain, but with structure, tannin, and aromatics that will impress an old world Bordeaux collector.
TASTING NOTES
Nose | Complex and expressive nose with aromas of raspberry, plum, and subtle floral notes of rose petals. With time in the glass, delicate tobacco and balsamic notes become more evident, adding further complexity to the aromatic profile.
Palate | On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, more linear than broad, with excellent depth and weight. Fine, well-ripened tannins provide a smooth, refined texture and excellent balance. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a lingering impression of fresh red and black fruit.
2021 ‘Block 22 – Limestone’ Single Parcel Estate Malbec
A rarity in the Los Chacayes I.G. region, we only have a single-acre of Malbec planted on a patch of calcareous limestone with only 2-3 barrels produced which are destined for this rare bottling. Our ‘Block 22 – Limestone’ produces incredibly perfumed wines that are unlike any other we’ve found in Los Chacayes, showcasing an elegance that will captivate any wine lover and is considered by many Malbec collectors to be one of the most singular bottlings of Malbec in the world.
TASTING NOTES
Nose | Intense and highly expressive nose, where floral aromas of violets and lavender are layered with fresh black fruit. Subtle notes of dried orange peel lend a distinctive character, integrating seamlessly with the wine’s floral and fruit-driven profile.
Palate | Fluid and precise, with a medium-bodied frame and a pronounced mineral character that speaks to its origin. Exceptionally fine, chalky-textured tannins bring tension and elegance. Harmony between fruit, acidity, and structure carries through to a long, persistent mineral finish.
